The HBFFA Community Action Committee ( CAC ) will be having a turkey drive for about forty ( 40 ) families for Thanksgiving. The CAC is asking HBFFA members to purchase a ( one ) turkey by tomorrow, Monday November 23rd, 2009 to fund this event. Please contact Shavonnah Mamou if you can sponsor a turkey. The event will take place at HBFFA office located at 4919 Reed Rd on Tuesday November 24th, 2009 from 1:00pm till 5:00pm. The Houston Black Fire Fighters Association would like to congratulate, one of our own, Dannie Smith, on his recent appointment of Fire Chief of the Pine Bluff Fire Department.
Chief Smith recently retired as Fire Chief of the Sugar Land Fire Department; a position held for the past 5 ˝ years. Smith was responsible for all Fire department operations to include Emergency Service, Fire Prevention, Professional Development & Training, Community Preparedness & Outreach and Emergency Management.

Everyone should know by now that our president Otis Jordan is running for city council District D. President Jordan has worked hard for our organization and the community for nine years. The HBFFA screening committee has recommended to the Executive Board to endorse Bro. Jordan. There has been support from the E-Board , PAC committee, family, and friends, but we need the help of the members to make this campaign successful.
First we need volunteers to work the polling sites for early voting and election day
Second we ask that if you and or family members live in district D, we would like to have permission to place a yard sign on your property.
If you help our President contact me via e-mail jamesalvin@sbcglobal.net, please provide address if you want yard signs deliver. Please respond ASAPBe on the look out for your election ballot in the mail! Voting will end November 4th at 4pm. Ballots need to be in the CPA’s office by 4pm. Don’t forget to sign and include your payroll number to make your vote count!

HBFFA will meet at City Hall on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009 at 1300 to discuss discrimination and racism in the Houston Fire Department, as well as, in the City of Houston.
